Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930) was a British writer, physician, and creator of the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Doyle initially trained as a doctor but found his true calling in writing. His first Holmes novel, A Study in Scarlet (1887), introduced the world to the brilliant detective and his loyal companion, Dr. John Watson.

Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories revolutionized the detective fiction genre with their emphasis on logic, deduction, and forensic science. Some of his most famous works include The Sign of Four, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

Beyond Holmes, Doyle also wrote historical novels, science fiction (such as The Lost World), and essays on spiritualism, a subject he was deeply passionate about later in life.
