About the Author

Born and brought up in Lucknow, Mehru Jaffer taught Islam in South Asia at Webster University and University of Vienna, Austria. During her three-decade stay in Europe, Mehru reported for BBC News in Hindi, and wrote features for leading Indian newspapers like the Indian Express, Hindustan Times and the Telegraph. She has covered South Asian affairs for the leading Austrian magazine Profil. An alumnus of Lucknow University, Mehru’s first job was with the daily newspaper founded in Prayagraj in 1865, the Pioneer. She was a reporter at India Today before moving to Europe. While in Vienna, Austria, Mehru made a 50-minute documentary film on the European fans of Bollywood heart-throb Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) called Mr Khan Vienna Loves You.
