Born in Egypt, M A S Abdel Haleem is a professor and author. As a child, he learnt the Qur’an by heart, and later received his education from the Cambridge universities. M A S Abdel Haleem taught Islamic and Arabic Studies at London and Cambridge universities, and serves as a professor at the School of Oriental and African Studies. He also works as an editor for the Journal of Qur'anic Studies. In the queen's birthday honours, he was appointed as officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). in the year 2008.
