Rudyard Kipling (1865–1936) was a novelist, poet and short-story writer. He wrote iconic works like The Jungle Book, Kim, ‘If’ and Plain Tales from the Hills. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1907.

Dhan Gopal Mukherji (1890-1936) wrote a number of books for children, including the prestigious Newbery Medal-winning Gay-Neck, the Story of a Pigeon (1927). His children’s books include Kari the Elephant, Hari the Jungle Lad, Ghond the Hunter, Hindu Fables and Fierce Face, among others.

Anjana Basu works as an advertising consultant in Kolkata. She writes stories and features in the local newspapers and for Outlook and Statesman. She is the author of a number of novels, children’s books and short story collections.
